Member of Parliament from BMC III Mr. Mtei, David reading the probe report concerning the welcome first year ceremony
By Maana Katuli
The committee which was formed by TUSO-DARCo released a probe report, about the investigation of the expenditure of the welcome first year 2011 ceremony. The ceremony took place at CocoBeach on 11th November 2011. The probe report was read by the Member of Parliament from BMC III, Mr. Mtei, David.
The committee comprised of five people that is Mario Philipo Nyalusi (Chairperson), Robert Gregory (Secretary), Happiness Kyando (Member), Wikson Fabian (Member), and Hery Abed (Member).
The committee was assigned to find the exact price of the hall, the amount of money been paid to the artists, the payment of music systems, and the payment of the listed services on the budget which were not provided.
After the deep investigation, the committee found out that the money listed at the budget which was Tsh. 2,000,000, does not match the amount spend for the ceremony.
The exact amount for the hall was supposed to be Tsh. 500,000, decoration expenditure was Tsh. 500,000, and music systems expenses were Tsh. 250,000. The total amount of the expenses was supposed to be Tsh. 1,250,000.
It was also found out that; the expense of drinks (soda) if paid in advance is Tsh. 800, which if paid in advance the amount would have been less to Tsh. 192,000. Instead the payment was made at the spot which cost Tsh. 1000, thus the payment was Tsh. 240,000. It was believed that, the amount of Tsh. 48,000 would have been saved if the payment was made in advance.
The resigned Minister of Sport and Social Affairs, Mr. Sule Adam, due to these allegations said that said that, it was due budget deficit which lead to all of these problems.
However, the committee found out that, there was misuse of money on transport for students. The budget for transport which Mr. Sule made was Tsh. 1,500,000 for eight buses. The amount of money wasted was Tsh. 300,000, as the exact amount was supposed to be Tsh. 1,200,000 only.
The suggestion of the committee was that the total amount of Tsh. 1,098,000 should be refunded to the TUSO-DARCo fund for other recreational usage.
The student at TumainiUniversity whose name in withheld, said that, it is a very good decision which TUSO-DARCo made, and should make sure that the money is refunded. Moreover, the strict measures should be taken for those responsible, to make sure that others learn for others misconduct.
